BREST, 23 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian city of Baranovichi will celebrate City Day on 17-18 May 2019. The celebrations will mark the forthcoming 2nd European Games and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus, BelTA learned from head of the cultural department of the city hall Natalya Mikhalchik.
The Flame of Peace relay race of the 2nd European Games will arrive in Baranovichi in the morning of 17 May. The city residents will welcome it in Lenina Square. Then, the torchbearers will carry it along the city's landmarks, including the Museum of Railway Equipment, the Baranovichi State University, and the 558th Aircraft Repair Plant.
Apart from Baranovichi, the relay will visit five more cities of Brest Oblast: Brest, Pinsk, Mikashevichi, Kossovo and Kamenets.
The Baranovichi Spring city celebrations will kick off on 17 May. Attending the official ceremony will be representatives of sister cities.
This year Baranovichi will mark its 148th birthday. The city emerged with the construction of the Moscow-Brest railway. One of the stations commissioned in November 1871 was named after a nearby village.More about Society
