CSTO legislation against human trafficking found compliant with international standards

MOSCOW, 17 March (BelTA) – The Moscow office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has presented a comprehensive comparative analysis of the Collective Security Treaty Organization member states' legislation on fighting illegal migration and human trafficking. The comparative analysis has been compiled in association with the CSTO Secretariat, CSTO Press Secretary Vladimir Zainetdinov told BelTA after CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas met with Director of the IOM's Moscow Office Abdusattor Esoev.

The key result of the comparative analysis is the conclusion that the national laws of all the CSTO member states are fully compliant with universally recognized international standards and approaches to the counteraction of illegal migration and trafficking in human beings.

During the meeting Abdusattor Esoev noted that the International Organization for Migration places emphasis on expanding cooperation with the Collective Security Treaty Organization, including taking into account the fact that all the CSTO member states are IOM members.

Stanislav Zas and Abdusattor Esoev expressed satisfaction with the development of cooperation between the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the International Organization for Migration. They reaffirmed the intention to seek more effective interaction in the areas of mutual interest.

Founded in 1951, the International Organization for Migration is the leading intergovernmental agreement in the area of migration. It closely cooperates with government agencies, intergovernmental organizations, and NGOs. The CSTO Secretariat and the IOM administration signed a cooperation protocol on 26 July 2006.
