VOLGOGRAD, 29 April (BelTA) – We will never put up with the stance of Western politicians on rewriting history. Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko made the statement during the plenary session of the international forum of the Union State of Belarus and Russia “Great heritage - common future” in the Russian city of Volgograd, BelTA has learned.
Igor Sergeyenko said: “We will never put up with the stance of Western politicians, who are obsessed with revanchist intentions and want to rewrite history, rehabilitate Nazi criminals and their aiders and abettors. Their purpose is to reform the conscience of the young generation. They want our children and grandchildren to renounce the heroic past of their grandfathers and great grandfathers.”
It is a pity that representatives of the current Western political elites have such a poor grasp of history, the speaker of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament noted. “I would like to quote what Churchill said during the Tehran conference: Stalingrad has become a symbol of courage, tenacity of the Russian nation and at the same time a symbol of the greatest human suffering. This symbol will be preserved for ages,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
“For decades ideologies of the collective West have been systemically and purposefully doing everything in order to separate our nations, discredit our common Soviet history. We understand the essence of these attempts. If we are disunited, we will not be a winning nation. They would like to weaken us, take away the common historical memory, and deprive us of the common future. I am convinced that all these efforts will fail to accomplish the desired goals,” the speaker of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament said.
The plenary session of the international forum of the Union State of Belarus and Russia “Great heritage - common future” is taking place in the Volgograd Philharmonic. The event is timed to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and has been organized upon the initiative of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Members of official parliamentary delegations from various countries, representatives of the expert community and the scientific one are taking part in the discussion.
