Belarusian doctors help 12-year-old refugee girl

MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – Belarusian healthcare workers have helped a 12-year-old refugee girl, surgeon of Grodno Oblast Children's Hospital Sergei Gerasimchik told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA informs.

The girl was admitted to hospital with acute gastritis, accompanied by her 20-year-old sister. The girl received the necessary medical help; now her condition is satisfactory.

“The teenager had hypothermia and was vomiting. Upon admission, her condition was assessed as moderate. The girl was placed in a surgery department. She received the necessary treatment, as well as food and beverages in line with a personalized diet plan,” Sergei Gerasimchik said.

According to the girl's sister, they had left Turkey to get to Europe through Belarus and had been on the road for a month already. They were pushed back from the Polish border many times, but they did not give up. And if not for the need to seek medical help, they would have continued to push their way through. Now their biggest concern is that they do not know where their parents are: on the Polish or Belarusian side.

“There are seven of us: five children, mother and father. My sister and I came to hospital because she was sick. The rest are at the borderline,” the girl added.

A reminder, the State Border Committee informed that another refugee child felt unwell at night. The boy was examined by doctors who are on duty at the makeshift camp at the borderline. He was diagnosed with hypothermia and offered medical help immediately. After his condition was stabilized, the boy returned to his family.
