Azarov names possible goals of USA, Israel in war against Iran

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) - In the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel, former Prime Minister of Ukraine (2010-2014) Nikolai Azarov said outlined what he sees as possible goals of the United States and Israel in a war against Iran.
“I read many different reviews and analyses. I read them and think: what is the deeper goal that perhaps few people talk about? Maybe the goal is precisely to take control of the hydrocarbon market, oil and gas. And if for that Iran needs to be bombed or the ayatollahs’ regime destroyed, then why not do it?” Nikolai Azarov explained, describing what he sees as a possible U.S. objective in a war with Iran.

According to him, the goals of the United States and Israel in a conflict with Iran should be viewed separately. He also believes that claims suggesting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu allegedly convinced U.S. President Donald Trump to start a war against Iran do not correspond to reality. “I know how American bureaucracy works. There is a serious apparatus that could stop Trump at any moment, present its own arguments and considerations. This means everything had been thoroughly worked out,” Nikolai Azarov said.

The former Ukrainian prime minister argues that the United States’ global objective is precisely to take control of the oil market, pushing out Russia and other players. “He [Donald Trump] says: we will make America great again. For businesspeople, the market is what matters most,” he emphasized.

Speaking about Israel’s goals, Nikolai Azarov noted that on the surface it appears Israel wants to eliminate a threat to itself. “Can it eliminate this threat? No, it cannot. Let’s look at the scale: a small country, even if highly technological and well-armed, cannot achieve much in that part of the world, where it is surrounded by enemies or semi‑loyal neighbors. But Iran will not disappear. So do Israel’s goals align with those of the Americans? I don’t think so. The Americans have their own goals, and they are pursuing them quite consistently,” he concluded.
