Automatic number-plate recognition system installed at Belarusian border checkpoint Berestovitsa

GRODNO, 31 March (BelTA) – The installation of an automatic number-plate recognition system has begun at the Belarusian border checkpoint Berestovitsa on the Belarusian-Polish border, BelTA learned from the Grodno Regional Customs.

The customs have already received the first batch of the necessary equipment. The second batch will be delivered in April. “Automatic number-plate recognition and instantaneous transfer of data to the information system will make crossing the Belarusian-Polish border faster for haulers and individuals,” the Grodno Regional Customs noted. The new system will also strengthen security, especially prevent unsanctioned departure of transport from the border checkpoint.

These activities are carried out in line with the transboundary cooperation program Poland-Belarus-Ukraine within the framework of the European Neighborhood Instrument. The European Union's contribution to the project makes up about €1 million. Under the project to improve border management operations at the Bruzgi and Berestovitsa checkpoints (PBU1/0683/16), the checkpoints have already upgraded local area networks and installed personal dash cameras, radio stations, data storage terminals, and other equipment.
