MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – About 40% of storm-damaged forests is planned to be recovered this autumn, Forestry Minister Aleksandr Kulik told the media at a republican meeting on eliminating the consequences of the July storm, BelTA has learned.

The republican meeting is held in Zhlobin District as one of the most damaged ones in Gomel Oblast.

Aleksandr Kulik got acquainted with progress of the complex works on storm-damaged areas. “We have involved all possible resources: about 3,000 forestry workers, 400 harvesters, 250 forwarders and other logging vehicles and machines. Now the forestry enterprises have the task to complete the whole complex of works. These include timber harvesting and taking out, clearing up logging areas, soil cultivation and preparation for reforestation. People from four oblasts are working there. Every director general of state production forestry associations will be responsible for his own oblast. The last shift will leave Gomel Oblast when the soil preparation and cultivation for forest plantations are completed,” he emphasized.

According to him, the recovery of about 40% of the forest damaged after the elements is planned for this autumn. “Equipment is already being delivered to cultivate soil after the timber is harvested. At today's meeting we are going to discuss reforestation in detail: availability of planting material, the structure according to species, assignments for forestry enterprises. Everything is going on as planned. We have already found buyers for timber, the prices are good. The goal [set by the president] is being achieved step by step,” Aleksandr Kulik remarked.

Representatives of the State Control Committee, the State Inspectorate for Fauna and Flora Protection, the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom, and other agencies also joined the discussion.

The matter of eliminating the consequences of the July storm remains under the personal control of the head of state.
