U.S. policy against Russia, China criticized

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – It is not a smart move on the part of the United States to push Russia and China closer together, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview with the VGTRK journalist, radio and TV host Vladimir Soloviev, BelTA has learned.

During the interview, the head of state revealed some details of his talks with former U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, who visited Belarus in early 2020. According to the president, the topic of the U.S. policy towards China and Russia was raised, among other things, during the meeting.

"When Pompeo was here, he and I sat down and I asked him a few questions. I asked him why they were pushing a powerful nuclear country with a huge military potential and an economic powerhouse closer together and are trying to wage war against them? ‘You're never going to win. Why are you doing this?' I asked him. He replied: ‘China is stealing technology, this and that. We'll stop them'. I say, ‘It's late. I know China better than you do. It's late. No one will stop China today. They will do without your technologies',” Aleksandr Lukashenko said recalling that meeting.

"Vladimir Rudolfovich, do you agree that it is a terrible mistake by the U.S. to push China and Russia closer together?" the head of state asked the journalist.

"This is a mistake, indeed" Vladimir Soloviev replied.
