Lukashenko: West wants negotiations with Russia more than Zelensky

KAZAN, 23 October (BelTA)  - The West wants Ukraine to sit down at the negotiating table with Russia and they want it more than Vladimir Zelensky himself, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview with VGTRK journalist Olga Skabeyeva on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia’s Kazan, BelTA has learned.

The head of state expressed the opinion that today the situation with regards to peace talks has already changed somewhat. "Remember, we used to say that peace will come when the Anglo-Saxons want it or America wants it together with the NATO members who support Ukraine. Today it is not quite so. They understand that everything is teetering on the brink of a very bad situation. Yet, Zelensky dug his heels in. They cannot overdo with pressure on him," Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “We always say: well, do not supply weapons, do not give money, and so on. But the West cannot lose face. They cannot stop giving weapons or money. After fleeing Afghanistan, this will be the end for them. No one will ever believe them. They don't want to lose face."

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the West already wants Zelensky to sit down at the negotiating table. "They are trying to put some pressure on him but not overdo it," the head of state said.
"When it comes to a decision to cede territories, then this must be a decision by Ukraine and them. In this regard, I am sure that such a turning point in the minds has already happened. The West wants Ukraine and Zelensky to sit down at the negotiating table with Putin and Russia and they want it more than Zelensky himself," the Belarusian president believes.
Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced that now there is an opportunity for negotiations. "It seems to me it is time to sit down at the negotiating table. The plan for a peaceful settlement or an end to the war will be worked out only at the negotiating table. By Ukraine and Russia," the president said.
