Lukashenko to hold municipal authorities responsible for investment projects in regions

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – The implementation of the president's instruction concerning the realization of at least one investment project in every district will be closely monitored. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he made decisions regarding the appointment of heads of district administrations, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that traditionally heads of municipal government agencies take care of primarily agricultural matters. They are responsible for timely and proper organization of sowing, harvesting, and effective operation of agribusiness enterprises. Social matters such as social services, education, culture, and healthcare are a lower priority for them because, generally speaking, that system is properly organized and works.

The president told the heads of the district administrations: “The only thing I will hold you responsible and where you should work hard is the one investment project that you have to implement in your district. In every district you have to set up a new enterprise, a new facility. Up to roughly 100 new jobs. A promising, good enterprise, which products we will be able to sell abroad and primarily on the home market. For that Igor Petrovich [Sergeyenko, Head of the Belarus President Administration]… You keep an eye on it, the government has to get involved. May god help you if this project fails. Next year we will take a look at the heads of the district administrations, at what projects they have implemented under your oversight.”
