Lukashenko sends St Patrick's Day wishes to Ireland

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has extended his best wishes to President Michael D Higgins for St Patrick's Day, BelTA learned from the press service of the head of state.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus is interested in continuing the pragmatic dialogue with Ireland and maintaining constructive cooperation and joint work on international platforms. “We backed Ireland's candidature for election to the United Nations Security Council for 2021-2022. I am convinced that with Ireland having a seat on the UN Security Council, we will be able to effectively cope with modern challenges and threats,” the message reads.

On behalf of Belarusians living in the areas affected by the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed appreciation for Ireland's humanitarian initiatives and thanked ordinary Irish people for their kindness.
