Lukashenko eager to supervise production of series of Belarus history movies

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko is ready to personally oversee the production of movies about Belarus’ history but a good movie script is necessary. He made the relevant statement at a meeting with ideology specialists, historians, and experts on 17 September on the occasion of People’s Unity Day, BelTA has learned.
Chairman of the Belarusian Committee of Youth Organizations Vadim Borovik brought up the topic of popularization of Belarus’ history. He remarked that at present efforts are focused only on certain periods of history although important ones. Such as, for instance, the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 or the country’s reunification in September 1939. “But our history is 1,000 years long. Our Belarusfilm should be instructed to make good movies about the entire history of Belarusian statehood, about its development,” he said. “We don’t want people to say that our history started 30 years ago or with the creation of the USSR or with the reunification in 1939.”
“I am ready to reflect it in movies. In order to show our history. I am in favor of it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko responded to the proposal. “Give me a script! We need a good script with correct historical facts. Money is not even the problem. The key is to have a good script. A patriotic, sincere, and honest script is necessary.”

The parliamentarian Igor Marzalyuk noted that the relevant work had already begun with the Belarusian State Television and Radio Company.
“Give me a script. I am ready to oversee it. And little by little we will make movies and move in this direction,” the president stressed once again.

He also recalled that a new building of the National History Museum is being built in Minsk now for a similar purpose. “We’d like to bring the topic up to date. We’d like to create a museum to which young people could come and feel pride,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
