Lukashenko dismisses talks about unpatriotic youth as empty rhetoric

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – The recent events in Belarus have drawn attention to one of the main functions of the educational process – educational work with children, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he attended the National Pedagogical Conference on 24 August, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted that there are no big, catastrophic problems in this regard. “They say the youth lacks patriotism. It is just empty rhetoric. Young people have been like this at all times: rebellious, sometimes radical, but mostly constructive,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

According to the president, last year showed that there are the prerequisites that can lead to irreparable consequences. “The fewer people with the Soviet values there are, the more acutely we feel it. To some extent, we are paying for the reforms of the 1990s. External forces have also played their role in many processes. Just remember Soros' programs. We curtained them in time, but their footprint has remained. Digitalization is also making its contribution, with children giving themselves up entirely to the Internet,” he said.

“This is however not the thing we should focus on today. There is no goal to look for the guilty. We have a big task, which is to find and fill the gaps in the educational process, and honestly admit where we have fallen short. We need to roll up our sleeves and do everything to ensure that we can pass the country to tomorrow's graduates,” the head of state added.
