Lukashenko comments on his plans to stay in office

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – Working as head of state is not a job but a mission, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview with the VGTRK journalist, radio and TV host Vladimir Soloviev, BelTA has learned.

When asked how long he is going to stay in office, Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that he is not going to leave if the situation is difficult, for example, if there is a war or if there are attempts to tear the country apart from within, as it happened in 2020. "But if everything is calm, then we will make a decision and thus will answer your question," the head of state said.

“But believe me, I'm not president because I crave to be president. God forbid you get into this situation when you depend on many circumstances,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.” “You depend on all those things, on your country, which you created with your own hands together with others, and even on children!”

"This is not a job. This is a service?" Vladimir Soloviev noted.

"You put it right," the president said. “It's not even a service. It is a mission," the Belarusian leader said.
