FM: Belarusian diplomatic service has to work in tough conditions of ‘new reality'

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) - The Belarusian diplomatic service has to work in the tough conditions of the ‘new reality', characterized by direct threats to the sovereignty and economic stability of Belarus, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at a meeting of the Collegium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus on 18 February, BelTA has learned.

“The world has changed beyond recognition over the past two years. There have already been assessments that we have found ourselves in a ‘Cold War 2.0' situation, the logic of which has been fully described by the actions of the U.S. and the EU against Belarus in 2020-2021. Today, the Belarusian diplomatic service has to work in the tough conditions of the ‘new reality', characterized by direct threats to the sovereignty and economic stability of Belarus, increasing political pressure from the West, up to the complete halt of intergovernmental contacts, the promotion of their unfriendly agenda in international organizations, a daily flow of fake news and misinformation in the mass media,” the minister said.

Vladimir Makei said: “Sanctions, aiming at the key sectors of the Belarusian economy, have become a major element of foreign policy of Washington, Brussels and London with regard to Minsk.”

According to Vladimir Makei, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus in close cooperation with other government agencies has built systematic work to counter sanctions and minimize their negative impact on the economy and population of the country in the context of the ongoing obvious unprecedented external pressure.
