Belarusian Burdz wins European sambo champion title

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) - Belarusian Uladzislau Burdz won the gold medal of the 2024 European Sambo Championships in the Serbian city of Novi Sad, BelTA has learned. 

On the way to the gold the Belarusian overpowered Romania’s Bogdan Drimba in the quarterfinals, Karen Sargsyan from Armenia in the semifinals, and Bulgaria’s Borislav Yanakov in the final. This medal was the only gold for Team Belarus that won three silver medals on Friday. 

Belarusian Uladzislau Sayapin (71kg) consecutively defeated representatives of France, Bulgaria and Romania but lost to Ramed Gukev of Russia in the final. In combat sambo (64kg) Yauhen Mikhno of Belarus prevailed over the athletes from Croatia and Russia but lost the "golden" fight to Mayis Nersesyan from Armenia. In the women's circuit Yelizaveta Lapayeva of Belarus (59kg) beat Russia's Nina Serdiuk in the semifinals but yielded to Khrystyna Bondar from Romania in the final.
