Belarus’ technological sovereignty seen as top priority amid sanctions

MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – The top priority task amid sanctions is to secure technological sovereignty, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at a meeting of the Council of Ministers Presidium on 7 May, BelTA has learned.

The meeting focused on the effectiveness of the use of innovation funds in 2023. Roman Golovchenko noted that this was not the first time such a meeting was held. “The matter was considered twice in April and October last year, and this attention is fully justified,” Roman Golovchenko said.

According to the Belarusian prime minister, amid sanctions, the target and strategic task is to achieve technological sovereignty. “The national centralized and local innovation funds and mechanisms for their use are one of the tools to address these challenges by creating new high-tech industries and introducing advanced import-substituting technologies,” the head of government believes.

Roman Golovchenko emphasized that certain decisions have been taken in order to increase the efficiency of the use of these financial instruments. “I can say that we have achieved certain results. The national centralized innovation fund is used by more than 95% for the second year in a row. There is a positive trend in terms of the use of local innovation funds,” the prime minister stressed.
