BREST, 19 March (BelTA) – Belarusian Foreign Affairs Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov visited the border checkpoints Brest and Kozlovichi on 19 March. He assessed the infrastructure and conditions for those crossing the Belarus-Poland border, BelTA has learned.
“I am very pleased with what I saw on our side. All services are operating normally and performing their duties efficiently. The infrastructure has been improved. Today we visited the Brest checkpoint for passenger cars and buses and the Kozlovichi checkpoint for trucks. Operations are well-organized there. It is clear that our services are ready to handle a much larger number of citizens, vehicles, and cargo,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said. He added that Belarus is prepared, in the shortest possible time, to ensure the capacity for more cargo and passenger movement. “The ball is in the court of our partners on the other side of the border,” the minister emphasized.

He reminded that it was the West that initiated the restrictions that made cargo deliveries more expensive and caused delays at the border for citizens and transport. “If they want to take advantage of the current situation and create a good, more reliable, and broader channel of interaction along the West-East route through Poland and Belarus, we are absolutely ready for that. It is a very beneficial opportunity. We are waiting for their actions. They must take the initiative, because they were the ones who introduced all the restrictions,” the Belarusian minister concluded.

He stressed the current global instability. Belarus, he said, can reliably connect the European Union with the East. “A corridor passes through Belarus that is very calm today, with border checkpoints equipped with the latest technology and capable of processing a huge volume of cargo per day. I truly hope that our neighbors will take a reasonable approach and understand that now is the perfect time to take advantage of this. It will benefit both them and us,” Maxim Ryzhenkov stated.
