CSTO to discuss Afghanistan refugees soon

MOSCOW, 23 August (BelTA) – The Collective Security Treaty Organization intends to take a closer look at the matter of refugees from Afghanistan soon. Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas made the statement at a video briefing held after the extraordinary videoconference session of the CSTO Collective Security Council on 23 August, BelTA has learned.

According to the source, a session of the coordinating council for fighting illegal migration will be held soon to discuss matters relating to illegal migration and refugees from Afghanistan. Apart from that, the treatment and accommodation of refugees will be practiced during an exercise of the CSTO peacekeeping forces in November.

The extraordinary session of the CSTO Collective Security Council was convened upon Russia's initiative. It was chaired by Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko took part in the session. Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the session in addition to the leaders of the CSTO member states.
