CSTO countries to coordinate positions on key topics at UN General Assembly

MOSCOW, 7 September (BelTA) - Representatives of the CSTO countries held scheduled consultations on the agenda of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly on 7 September, CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov told BelTA.

"The participants of the consultations thoroughly discussed the interaction of the CSTO member states during the 76th session of the UN General Assembly which is opening in New York on 14 September this year," the spokesman said. “The parties believe it is important that the CSTO member states act together in the United Nations and contribute to the efforts of the international community, amid the worsening situation and spread of terrorism aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to meet the key goal of the United Nations, namely to ensure international peace, regional and global stability.”

"Particular attention was paid to coordinating positions on such key topical issues as the situation in Afghanistan, the participation of the CSTO in UN peacekeeping missions. The participants also exchanged views on a number of draft joint statements that the CSTO member states plan to get passed during the 76th session of the UN General Assembly," the spokesman added.

The consultations were attended by CSTO Deputy Secretary General Tahir Khairulloev, leading experts of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the CSTO member states and the CSTO Secretariat.
