CEC: Some Br23m to be earmarked for parliamentary elections in Belarus

MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) - About Br23 million will be earmarked for the parliamentary elections in Belarus, head of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina told the media, BelTA has learned.

“The total sum is approximately Br23 million,” Lidia Yermoshina said. The matter is about both the elections to the House of Representatives and also the elections to the Council of the Republic, she clarified.

This year the financing has been increased by Br1 million when compared to the parliamentary campaign of 2016. “This is due to the average salary growth in the country,” she explained.

On 6 August the Central Election Commission convened for a session to discuss matters related to the elections to the National Assembly of Belarus of the 7th convocation. In particular, the commission has approved the schedules of organizational activities to prepare the elections to the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic.

On 5 August Belarusian head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No. 293 and Decree 294 to set the dates for the elections to the Council of the Republic and the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the 7th convocation. They will be held on 7 and 17 November 2019 respectively.
