Belarusian PM introduces new deputy prime minister to Council of Ministers’ Office

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) - Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin introduced the new Deputy Prime Minister for Construction, Transport, and Housing and Utilities, Aleksandr Terekhov, to the staff of the Council of Ministers' Office and relevant ministries, BelTA has learned.

According to Aleksandr Turchin, the new deputy prime minister needs no introduction. “He worked for a long time in the Ministry of Housing and Utilities, serving as deputy minister and minister of housing and utilities. In recent years, he has headed one of the largest construction holding companies in our country,” he noted. “During his appointment yesterday, the president set out the tasks for Aleksandr Terekhov with extreme clarity and precision.”

The prime minister emphasized that among the new deputy prime minister's strong qualities is a high speed of decision-making. “Most importantly, he has hands-on experience and knows the challenges facing the construction industry and the housing and utilities sector, and understands regional issues. I believe that all these areas will receive an additional boost with the arrival of Mr Terelhov," the head of government remarked.

Aleksander Turchin once again congratulated Aleksandr Terekhov on his high position and wished him success. “The government and all colleagues will certainly lend you a shoulder if needed. We are counting on the coordinated work of our team.

The new deputy prime minister thanked the president and the government for their trust. “I am ready for teamwork. I know many of those sitting at this table, and you know that I am ready for constructive work.  I am reachable 24/7 to everyone," Aleksandr Terekhov said. “I hope my appointment will provide a certain boost. In construction, the priority is to increase housing volumes, but not at the expense of Minsk alone, as the head of state made clear. Once built, housing needs to be properly maintained, and a comfortable environment for people must be created, which is the task of the Ministry of Housing and Utilities.”

According to him, certain tasks also lie ahead in the transport and communications sector. “Roads across the entire country must be of the same quality as those in the central part and in Minsk. The same level of quality must be ensured on routes from every agrotown to the district center, in compliance with the service time standards set out in the country's development program through 2030,” the deputy prime minister said. “I hope that the Emergencies Ministry also keeps its finger on the pulse. The spring flood situation is currently a concern, and during the hot season, the threat comes from forest fires. I am confident that the ministry will successfully handle its tasks."

Until now, Aleksandr Terekhov held the position of director general of the state production association Minskstroy. Prior to that, he headed the Ministry of Housing and Utilities for a number of years.

In addition, the prime minister thanked Anatoly Sivak for his work. He had until now held the position of deputy prime minister for construction, transport, and housing and utilities. “He worked for a long time in various roles in our country: he was in charge of railways, served as minister of transport and communications, chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, and deputy prime minister. This is a great life's journey. Anatoly Sivak has made a lot of good for our country. I thank you for your work and want to say: if you have the desire and the opportunity to continue working for the benefit of our country, I welcome you, and we will gladly discuss your prospects,” Aleksandr Turchin said.

Anatoly Sivak also thanked the head of government and the staff of the Council of Ministers for their fruitful joint work. “I wish the government and all colleagues success in achieving and fulfilling the tasks set by the president of our country,” he noted.
