MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – Belarus pursues a systemic policy to expand opportunities and enhance the role of women in the country’s life. Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva Larisa Belskaya made the statement during the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, BelTA has learned.
Larisa Belskaya emphasized that Belarus is committed to the key objectives of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which are crucial instruments in the field of gender equality, as a complex agenda for the empowerment of women.
“An assessment of the progress in fulfilling the Beijing commitments has confirmed that a substantial contribution from women is a key factor in the sustainable progress and harmonious development of the society. With its long-standing traditions and serious achievements in this area, Belarus pursues a systemic policy of expanding opportunities and strengthening the role of women in the life of the country,” the diplomat said.
In her words, the effectiveness of this policy is confirmed by Belarus’ 27th position in the 2025 gender equality index as well as by the country’s high ratings – in the top 30 – in the global rankings that measure education, health, employment, and women’s participation in decision-making.
Larisa Belskaya noted that the Belarusian president had declared 2026 the Year of the Belarusian Woman. This decision reflects the state’s support for women’s initiatives and recognition of the most important role that women play in politics, the economy, and the social sphere, in the family, and in raising children.
“The initiative is aimed at expanding opportunities for women’s leadership, professional and social self-realization of women, and at strengthening Belarus’ international commitments in the field of gender equality,” the permanent representative of Belarus pointed out.
