Belarusian ambassador takes part in China’s Two Sessions events

MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the People’s Republic of China Aleksandr Chervyakov has taken part in events held as part of the annual Two Sessions: the session of the National People’s Congress and the session of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in China.

The session of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference opened on 4 March, and the session of the National People’s Congress opened on 5 March at the Great Hall of the People. The traditional Two Sessions are a key annual political event in China, during which the results of the country’s social and economic development are summed up and state policy priorities for the upcoming period are determined.

During the session of the National People’s Congress, the government work report was presented and discussed, outlining the country’s main development tasks for 2026. Particular attention was paid to ensuring sustainable economic growth, developing high-tech industries, strengthening innovative potential, modernizing industry, promoting green development and further expanding the policy of openness. In addition, parameters for social and economic development, issues of improving public welfare, enhancing the state governance system and ensuring the stable development of the national economy were discussed.

During the meetings of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, participants discussed a wide range of issues related to social and economic development, scientific and technological innovation, regional development, as well as improving the efficiency of state governance. Consideration was given to forming proposals on key areas for implementing long-term development strategies and preparing for a new stage of national planning.

The participation of the foreign diplomatic corps in the Two Sessions events is an important element of informing foreign partners about the priorities of China’s domestic and foreign policy, and also testifies to the Chinese side’s openness to international dialogue.

The Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China maintain relations of all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership. The Belarusian side attaches great importance to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with China in trade, economic, investment, scientific, technical, humanitarian and other domains.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China were established on 20 January 1992. In September 2022, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization events, the leaders of Belarus and China adopted a Joint Declaration on the establishment of the highest level of relations in history: all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership. In March 2023, during the state visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to China, the heads of state following their talks adopted a Joint Statement on the basic principles of developing exemplary relations of all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership between Belarus and China in a new era.

The two countries closely cooperate on international platforms, in international initiatives and organizations. Belarus is an important partner of China within the Belt and Road Initiative. A vivid example of cooperation between the two countries is also the SCO platform. Belarus has been participating in the SCO since 2024 as a full member. Belarus considers the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as an important international platform for developing concrete mechanisms for cooperation in countering threats of terrorism, extremism, organized crime and advocates strengthening the economic dimension of the SCO as a crucial factor of stability in the Eurasian region. Belarus takes an active part in all main dimensions of SCO activities: political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian.
