Belarus, Pakistan hold ministerial consultations in Islamabad

MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) – Belarus' Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas paid a working visit to Pakistan on 25-26 November to hold several meetings and take part in bilateral ministerial consultations, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Pakistan.

Andrei Dapkiunas held meetings with Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Asad Qaiser and Chairman of the Friendship Group with the Parliament of Belarus Yaqub Sheikh. The parties emphasized the importance of using the potential of the legislative bodies to expand relations and promote mutual interests, first of all, in industry, agriculture and pharmaceutics. The parties also discussed the possibilities of conducting visits by heads of the legislative bodies and friendship groups in 2020.

At the meeting with Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Sohail Mahmood, the parties took a look at the approaches to develop cooperation in politics, trade and economy, discussed the preparations for bilateral events and mutual visits at various levels. The main topic on the agenda of Andrei Dapkiunas' meeting with official representative of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Pakistan Jurabek Kirgizbekov was the intensification of business cooperation. The parties also discussed the organization of forum platforms and exchange of business visits.

The central event of the visit was a regular round of Belarus-Pakistan ministerial consultations. Pakistan was represented at the talks by Additional Secretary for Europe Aman Rashid. “The diplomats discussed cooperation in politics, trade and economy, the development of the legal framework of relations, scientific and educational ties, and also cooperation in international organizations. The parties also exchanged information on certain issues related to the regional situation and the international agenda. Special focus was made on the continuation of the dialogue between the authorities of the two countries,” the Belarusian diplomatic mission said.

While in Pakistan, Andrei Dapkiunas handed over a multi-volume facsimile edition The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna to the Belarusian information and cultural center at the National Library of Pakistan. The deputy minister also held a ceremony to inaugurate Honorary Consul of Belarus to Lahore Walid Mushtaq.
