S. Korea adds 1 silver, 2 bronze medals on Day 3 of Winter Asiad

HARBIN, 11 February (BelTA - Yonhap) - South Korea added a silver medal and two bronze medals at the Asian Winter Games in northeast China on Monday, as its gold medal-winning streak ended at two days.

Speed skater Kim Jun-ho picked up two medals at Heilongjiang Ice Events Training Center Speed Skating Oval in Harbin. He joined teammates Cha Min-kyu and Cho Sang-hyeok for silver in the inaugural men's team sprint event, as South Korea finished the three-lap, 1,200-meter race in 1:20.48, 1.26 seconds behind China.

A couple of hours earlier, Kim had won bronze in the men's 500m at 35.03 seconds, behind Gao Tingyu of China (34.95) and Wataru Morishige of Japan (34.97).

Kim had also grabbed bronze in the men's 100m on the same oval on Saturday.

The only other medal for South Korea on Monday came from snowboard, where Kang Dong-hun took bronze in the men's big air event at Yabuli Ski Resort, some 200 kilometers southeast of the main host city of Harbin.

Kang scored 158.75 points after three runs to finish in third place behind Yang Wenlong of China (193.25). Snowboarders each performed three runs, and only their two highest scores were combined for the final score.

This was Kang's second bronze medal of the competition, following his third-place finish in the men's slopestyle on Saturday.

South Korea won seven gold medals Saturday and four more on Sunday to meet its target of winning at least 11 gold medals.

South Korea will look to pick up more medals from speed skating on Tuesday, the final day at the oval. The men's and women's curling teams began their round-robin phase Sunday, with an eye toward the gold medal matches Friday, the last day of the Asian Games.

Lee Chae-un, the gold medalist in the men's snowboard slopestyle on Saturday, will chase another gold in his main event, halfpipe. The qualification is Wednesday, and the final is Thursday.
