Russia’s Kaluga Oblast governor lauds Belarus’ contribution to region’s development

MOSCOW, 10 March (BelTA) – Belarus has made a significant contribution to the development of the social sector in Kaluga Oblast of Russia, Kaluga Oblast Governor Vladislav Shapsha said during a meeting with Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia Yuri Seliverstov, BelTA has learned.

The governor recalled that the regional delegation last visited Belarus in 2023, when a three-year cooperation plan was approved. “Today we are taking stock of this work and we see that our trade has grown by a quarter in less than three years, reaching more than $300 million. This is a significant result,” he said.

Vladislav Shapsha named several joint projects that have either already been completed or are now underway. “We are close to launching a dairy farm in Kaluga Oblast using equipment designed and manufactured in Belarus. We expect our investors to begin implementing this project already this year. Just last year, our agricultural producers purchased nearly 40 units of Belarusian machinery. This speaks to its high quality and to the strong and close ties between our countries and our enterprises,” he noted.

“The most significant result of our joint work is certainly in construction. Over the past five years, Belarusian builders have constructed more than 500,000 square meters of housing in Kaluga Oblast, as well as 8 kindergartens and 10 schools to accomadate more than 10,000 children. This is a major contribution to the development of the region’s educational and living environment. We are grateful to the Belarusian side for this,” Vladislav Shapsha said.
