Mozyr Oil Refinery about to finish building hydrogen plant as part of heavy oil complex

GOMEL, 7 September (BelTA) – The construction of a hydrogen production plant as part of the heavy oil hydrocracking complex in OAO Mozyr Oil Refinery is in the final stage, BelTA has learned.

Startup operations are supposed to take place at the hydrogen production plant in late September. Construction and installation operations at a sulfur production plant are nearing completion as well. This plant is supposed to be commissioned together with an integrated hydrocracking unit.

Off-plant facilities are nearly ready – 99%. A special commission is working to commission the facilities. Various inspection organizations are expected to produce their conclusions before the facilities are commissioned.

The company intends to obtain conclusions for a tank farm as the next step. It is impossible to commission the hydrogen production plant without the tank farm.

In August the company test fired flare unit F-6 at the heavy oil hydrocracking complex (H-Oil) it is building. The 100-meter flare unit is designed to burn flare gas that will be fed by the integrated hydrocracking unit and the hydrogen production plant.

The construction of the heavy oil hydrocracking complex is Mozyr Oil Refinery's largest investment project on record. Its value is estimated to exceed $1.2 billion. In essence building the complex is like building another enterprise. The heavy oil hydrocracking complex comprises an integrated hydrocracking unit, a hydrogen plant, a sulfur plant, and 21 off-plant facilities. The implementation of the investment project will allow increasing the crude oil upgrading index up to 90%.

Mozyr Oil Refinery was commissioned in 1975. It was converted into a public joint-stock company (OAO) in 1994. The company specializes in refining oil and making and selling oil products. The products are exported to over 20 countries.
