Mass sowing to start in Belarus soon

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats told the Belarus 1 TV channel when mass sowing will kick off in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

“Now we have optimal temperatures to carry out spring field works. By now, certain work has already been done to create a humidity dome; 56,000 hectares of area has been prepared for sowing grain crops. Meanwhile, planting has been done on 10,000 hectares of land. Five regions of the country are embarking on sowing.  Vitebsk Oblast is also getting down to planting,” noted Leonid Zayats.

According to him, at the moment the time gap for the start of the sowing period between various regions is approximately two weeks, but this does not mean that agricultural workers have time to waste.

“I think that mass sowing will begin in Belarus in just 3-4 days. Today our task is to preserve the moisture that has accumulated over the winter. Considering the constant shortage of this moisture, we need to do all the field works very quickly to preserve it,” said the deputy prime minister.
