Grodno Oblast-Nizhny Novgorod Oblast trade up 12% in H1 2025

MOSTY, 14 August (BelTA) - The trade between Belarus’ Grodno Oblast and Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast grew by 12% in the first half of the year, Feodosy Vladyshevsky, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Grodno, said at the plenary session of the 4th Congress of Small Towns of Grodno Oblast and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast in Mosty on 14 August, BelTA has learned.

According to Feodosy Vladyshevsky, the Congress of Small Towns fosters direct people-to-people connections and horizontal ties, which are of great importance. “Interregional cooperation plays a key role in the trade, economic, and humanitarian development of our countries, serving as a driving force for integration processes,” said the Consul General of Russia in Grodno.

“The agenda of our cooperation within the Union State is increasingly filled with large-scale and ambitious projects. The expansion of our partnership format demonstrates steady, multifaceted, and effective work. At the same time, we acknowledge there is significant untapped potential for further development, including within the Union State framework, and we hope to utilize these opportunities,” Feodosy Vladyshevsky said. “It is worth mentioning that the recent Forum of Regions of Russia and Belarus, dedicated to the youth of our two countries, was held in Nizhny Novgorod. Over 100 contracts worth RUB20 billion and around 200 cooperation agreements were signed there. This clearly illustrates how regional partnerships serve as a powerful engine for economic growth in our countries.”

Nizhny Novgorod Oblast is one of Belarus' most important trade partners, the Consul General of Russia in Grodno said. “We have observed growing trade between this Russian region and Grodno Oblast, reaching $51 million last year. In just the first six months of this year, the figure has already hit $27.4 million with a 12% growth,” he said.

Feodosy Vladyshevsky emphasized the strengthening bilateral ties across multiple sectors including science, culture, sports, tourism, local governance, youth and social projects. “Our regions share ancient and enduring bonds of friendship rooted in common Slavic history,” he added. “Small cities play a special role as guardians of tradition, unique architecture and way of life. Particularly heartening is how Grodno Oblast carefully preserves the memory of the Great Patriotic War, including honoring soldiers from Nizhny Novgorod, an aspect of great significance.”
