MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – Speaking during the plenary session on Chuvashia’s sustainable development during the Cheboksary Economic Forum 2024, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoi outlined prospects for Belarus’ cooperation with Russia’s Republic of Chuvashia in electric transport, BelTA has learned.

Dmitry Krutoi said: “Chuvashia’s accomplishments are impressive. For the second year in a row this Russian region has occupied the second position in terms of the growth rate of the manufacturing sector as a whole and of industrial enterprises in particular. It is a fantastic result. Chuvashia is constantly in the Top 10 in terms of the fulfillment of national projects.”

The official volume of Belarus’ trade turnover with the Russian region stands at $130 million, however, according to the Belarusian ambassador, the figure is incomplete since statistics agencies fail to keep records of a huge range of the products that gets sold.

Head of the Republic of Chuvashia Oleg Nikolayev is expected to come to Belarus on an official visit soon. The visit will contribute to the expansion of cooperation avenues. At present three top Belarusian companies operate on the Chuvashia market. BelAZ, MAZ, MTZ, and Gomselmash have their own partners in Chuvashia. Manufacturing cooperation is well developed and individual components are shipped to Belarus as well. There are a number of other promising investment projects and manufacturing cooperation projects that will be discussed, Dmitry Krutoi noted.

One of them is related to electric transport. Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) also participates in the renovation of Chuvashia’s trolleybus fleet and prospects of increasing the volume of cooperation look good.

“An experiment has been in progress in two Belarusian cities with the population of approximately 50,000-70,000 people for the past year. The mass transit system of these cities has completely switched to electric transport. Our experience may be of interest for Chuvashia to some extent,” the Belarusian ambassador to Russia noted.

Dmitry Krutoi indicated that Belarus is interested in taking part in a large number of projects. For instance, in the Pure Water program. Belarusian companies have already participated in the realization of similar initiatives in regions of Russia, the ambassador stressed. The companies can offer standard solutions to customers in Chuvashia.

“Belarus has serious competences in all these areas,” the ambassador pointed out.
