EEC: Cooperation with Uzbekistan is getting more practical

MOSCOW, 16 March (BelTA) – Cooperation prospects between the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and Uzbekistan were discussed by Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich and Deputy Prime Minister for Investments and Foreign Economic Affairs - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov in Moscow on 15 March, BelTA learned from the press service of the EEC.

“We are glad that Uzbekistan has actively joined the work as an observer state. Taking into account that our interaction is getting more practical, we will do our best to make sure that the aspirations and agreements that have been reached will be implemented,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

In particular, there are plans to draft a memorandum of cooperation between the EEC and the government of Uzbekistan, as well as a joint action plan for 2021-2023. The parties confirmed that these fundamental documents are already on the homestretch and will soon be ready for signing.

According to the chairman of the EEC Board, Uzbekistan needs to pay special attention to technical and customs regulations in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as well as the EAEU foreign trade policy. He suggested actively involving business communities and associations in the work, as it will facilitate cooperation in the manufacturing sector between the EAEU countries and Uzbekistan, and will also demonstrate the opportunities and benefits of Eurasian integration for business.

“The meeting was attended by Member of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Andrei Slepnev. Prior to the meeting he had held consultations with the First Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov to discuss trade policy and e-commerce, digital transport corridors, a possibility of Uzbekistan joining a number of ongoing projects, including the Agro-Express initiative, which helps to minimize costs in the supply of agricultural products,” the press service informed.
