Belarusian Vitebsk Oblast almost doubles trade with Russian regions in 2021

VITEBSK, 1 April (BelTA) - The trade of Vitebsk Oblast with Russian regions totaled $4.3 billion in 2021, which was almost twice as much as in 2020, BelTA learned from the Economy Committee of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee.

Vitebsk Oblast enterprises have been developing cooperation with partners from 75 regions of all federal districts of Russia, while the Central Federal District accounts for about 67% of all Vitebsk exports to Russia. In 2021, the region exported products worth of $1.2 billion, which was up by 140%. Major export items were consumer goods (46%), of which food accounted for 22.6%, non-food products – for another 23.4%. The Vitebsk Oblast export range features petrochemicals (polyethylene, chemical fibers, fiberglass), dairy products, knitwear, carpets and apparel, footwear, linen fabrics, machine tools.

The Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee pays great attention to the development of interregional relations and legal framework in order to step up foreign trade and implement joint projects in the economy. Today, the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee has 26 bilateral agreements with Russian partners. More than 100 documents have been signed between districts and cities.

In 2021, the Russian Federation accounted for 65.8% of foreign trade of Vitebsk Oblast, for about 48% of its total exports and 77.5% of imports.
