MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) - The scale of power grid infrastructure reconstruction in Belarus has doubled over the past five years, Belarusian Energy Minister Denis Moroz said in an interview to the STV TV channel, BelTA has learned.
According to the minister, an important task for the energy ministry and power supply organizations is to bring the energy infrastructure into compliance with current requirements. “This energy infrastructure was built a long time ago, at a time when electrical energy was not considered a source of heat supply for the population. As a result, the energy infrastructure was designed without this need in mind. Today, we are working on carrying out the necessary volume of reconstruction within the energy infrastructure. Over the past five years, the scale of power grid reconstruction has doubled. This year, our task is to complete the reconstruction of more than 3,400 kilometers of power lines,” said Denis Moroz.

According to him, this reconstruction allows for increasing the ability to meet public demand for the use of electrical energy. “We have over 140,000 households that use electrical energy. Today, we satisfy about 94% of the requests that come in to power supply organizations. We fulfill 94%. That's a lot, but it's not 100%. Our task is to get as close to 100% as possible. When a person wants to use electrical energy, we strive to carry out the necessary reconstruction and fulfill their request,” the energy minister emphasized.
