MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – Speaking with the First News TV Channel, Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi named the Russian cities that may be considered for direct air service from Belarus, BelTA reports.
At the Union State Supreme State Council meeting in Moscow, the presidents of Belarus and Russia signed documents on the restoration of direct rail service between Smolensk and Vitebsk, as well as Orsha. Will Union State transport services be expanded? “The key point isn’t merely restoring pre-1991 routes that had operated poorly in recent years, forcing passengers to make transfers due to the lack of direct commuter links. What matters most is that the presidents agreed to finance this social and transport project using Union State funds. This serves as a valuable model, enabling us to expand the project based on citizen demand for these routes. The next pilot cities have already been identified and have expressed interest in participating. We also plan to propose to the presidents that the commuter rail subsidy mechanism be extended to direct air travel between our countries,” said Dmitry Krutoi.
He named promising air routes from Belarus to Russia. “There are two cities, Volgograd and Krasnoyarsk, that are very important in terms of developing economic and tourism relations,” the head of the Belarus President Administration emphasized. “Calculations are currently underway to extend this support to the aviation sector as well. This would be a good way to boost the overall export of transport services. The Russian Federation has accommodated us by maintaining preferential rates for transporting our cargo to seaports, which is significant support for us. Investment cabotage, as we call it, has been launched. This refers to shipments by Belarusian companies within Russia as part of major investment projects that are underway. We see a significant boost here, a significant increase.”
