MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – Deputy Chairman of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus (DBRB) Dmitry Yaroshevich has made a few comments about the lifting of U.S. sanctions from the bank, BelTA has learned.
Dmitry Yaroshevich said: “Although we were quite successful in conditions of these sanctions, certainly, [the lifting of the sanctions] opens up new opportunities for us. Because in addition to the domestic agenda the Development Bank has a broad regional network of partners. Those are various international banks. For instance, the World Bank, African and pan-African banks. Now when the restrictions have been lifted, certain opportunities are opening up for us. In any case, the fewer restrictions a business has to deal with, the better.”
The executive mentioned a number of opportunities the lifted sanctions had prompted. “First of all, the export of our goods, assistance to our exporters, the provision of resources to banks for the sake of buying our products,” he remarked. “Apart from that, if we talk, for instance, about the World Bank, we have a program with the bank on supporting small and medium businesses. In other words, I am talking about a way to attract funding into our economy.”
Dmitry Yaroshevich mentioned the possibility of resuming the realization of projects together with the United States of America. “We have relations with the Export-Import Bank of the United States,” he stressed. “We intend to work with our exporters on shipping products to the USA.”
The deputy chairman of the DBRB Board also mentioned the topic of restrictions on the part of Europe. “I am confident that common sense will prevail. The lifting of sanctions opens up opportunities not only for us but also for our partners. In what way are companies from the UK, Poland, and other countries of the European Union worse than American ones?” Dmitry Yaroshevich concluded.
It was revealed on 19 March that the United States of America will lift sanctions from Belinvestbank, the Development Bank, and the Finance Ministry. Belarusian Potash Company and Belaruskali have been removed from all lists of sanctions.
