MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – A delegation from Niger State, Federal Republic of Nigeria, visited the Development Bank of Belarus to discuss in detail potential joint projects in agriculture, energy, food, manufacturing, and innovation, the Development Bank’s press service told BelTA.

The friendly relations and high level of trust between the two countries’ leaders served as the foundation for intensifying cooperation. The parties noted that this political capital is now being transformed into mutually beneficial economic initiatives.
Governor of Niger State Mohammed Umaru Bago outlined a strategic vision for the partnership, expressing that his interest extends far beyond agricultural machinery. “As our republic actively develops its regions, our strategic request is for the transfer of competencies and the creation of a modern production base,” he stated. “We are interested not only in machinery supplies, but also in joint projects in food processing, energy, and, most importantly, in creating smart logistics for our growing economies.”

Development Bank Chairman Sergei Stolyarchuk emphasized that he sees Niger State as a promising and reliable partner. “We are united in our goal to deliver tangible outcomes that will benefit out citizens,” he said.

Sergei Stolyarchuk also noted that the transition to practical implementation is a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s food security. “Belarus is actively developing its infrastructure for the storage and processing of agricultural products, as well as the production of finished foods. Advancements in biotechnology now allow for the additional processing of these goods to enrich them with amino acids and nutrients,” he said. “It is crucial that Nigeria views Belarus not merely as a supplier, but as a reliable partner committed to sharing cutting-edge expertise, knowledge, and innovation. Our country is also prepared to implement digital farming technologies that enable the optimal use of equipment for cultivating large areas and the precise application of fertilizers,” he emphasized.

The head of the Development Bank added that Belarus has built a proven track record in Africa, demonstrating cost-effectiveness and reliability in supplying machinery and food products and in implementing joint projects. Transportation and logistics aspects of cooperation were also addressed: the parties discussed the construction of road and transport links and the establishment of a transport system, including the use of new technologies.

Belarus offers its partners a comprehensive solution that extends beyond equipment, encompassing everything from high-quality production to export financing and engineering support. This integrated model has already proven its effectiveness through a number of successfully implemented projects across the African continent.

A key focus of the meeting was the Development Bank’s capacity to finance both previously announced and promising new projects. The foreign partners praised the Bank’s instruments, recognizing them as an effective mechanism for driving cooperation across all identified sectors.

The meeting served as a clear demonstration of the commitment to building a long-term, large-scale partnership. The parties agreed to advance project development, where export support from the Development Bank will be a critical success factor.
