Belarus' central bank plans to develop cooperation with Mir, UnionPay payment systems

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – We are planning to develop interaction with various payment systems, including Mir and UnionPay, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus Dmitry Kalechits told the media on the sidelines of the international forum on information technologies in banking industry BankIT 2022 in Minsk on 18 October, BelTA has learned.

"We have strengthened our payment infrastructure. This gives us an opportunity to feel more or less confident in the current difficult conditions and to work as part of cross-border cooperation. If we talk about messaging systems, then there are alternatives. What is important here is correspondent relations between banks from one side and the other," Dmitry Kalechits said.

One of the possibilities of making payments, he called the payment system Mir. "It is clear that integration is a gradual process. We have plans to develop interaction with other payment systems. The Chinese UnionPay is tapping our market, our banks will work with this payment system more actively," Dmitry Kalechits noted.

"We have an opportunity to make payments to other countries by means of a regular bank payment, through card access. We are working to diversify the opportunities for our citizens and enterprises to work in the payments market," Dmitry Kalechits added.
