Two Belarusians make top 6 in individual race at biathlon event in Russia’s Uvat

MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) - Two Belarusian biathletes have earned a spot in the flower ceremony following the individual race at the Russian Junior Biathlon Championship in Uvat, Tyumen Oblast, Russia, BelTA has learned.

The 15km race for athletes under 20 featured 64 competitors. Belarus’ Aleksandr Shikun finished fourth, while fellow Belarusian Pavel Matsul rounded out the top six. Both Belarusians made two misses at the shooting ranges. Also placing within the top 30 were Belarusians Aleksandr Sknarin (23rd), Serafim Saiko (27th), and Andrei Kolbanov (30th).

In the women’s 12.5km individual race, Valeria Vecherskaya was the top Belarusian finisher. With two misses, she came within a step of the top ten. Ulyana Kamornikova placed 19th, and Hanna Makarskaya finished 21st out of 50 biathletes. Sprint races are scheduled for 13 December, with pursuit races to follow the next day.
