Preserving cultural heritage and national traditions: Belarus’ NOC head on ethnosports

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – The head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko has met with President of the World Ethnosport Union Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan, BelTA learned from the NOC press service.

The talks took place on the sidelines of the 8th Ethnosport Forum in Antalya, Türkiye. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in ethnic sports, paying special attention to the International Gorodki Sports Competition “The Strongest Cup”, which will be held in Molodechno at the end of April.

Viktor Lukashenko stressed the value of the forum as a platform for sharing best practices, uniting representatives from various nations around the goal of preserving unique sporting traditions. He also underscored how effectively ethnosport has been advanced as a vehicle for intercultural dialogue. “We will be happy to move forward on all fronts. It is truly important to pay attention to the development of ethnic sports, the preservation of cultural heritage, and national traditions,” noted the head of the NOC.

Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan welcomed the admission of the Belarusian Gorodki Sport Federation into the World Ethnosport Union and invited Belarus to take part more widely in future competitions and joint projects under the union’s auspices. The meeting also touched on potential cooperation in education, culture, and other areas.
