Petkevich: Labor and Social Security Ministry gains strategic role in new five-year period

MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) - Strategic significance is being attached to the Belarusian Labor and Social Security Ministry in the new five-year period, Deputy Prime Minister Natalya Petkevich said as she introduced new minister Andrei Lobovich to the ministry’s staff on 16 January, BelTA has learned.

Outlining priority tasks for the ministry, Natalya Petkevich noted that the head of state, through decisions made yesterday, clearly demonstrated the increasing role being assigned to the Labor and Social Security Ministry in the current five-year period. “This ministry is acquiring key, strategic significance. This means there must also be a certain transformation in the ministry’s functions,” Natalya Petkevich said.

According to her, the ministry must focus on the ideology and economics of labor and social security. “Today, we cannot afford to focus solely on post-regulation. The most important thing to concentrate on now is building a strategic vision for the development of the social-labor sector and social security. The Labor and Social Security Ministry must be a full-fledged regulator in the areas under its jurisdiction,” the deputy prime minister said.

Introducing the new head to the ministry’s team, Natalya Petkevich pointed out that Andrei Lobovich is not a newcomer to the Labor and Social Security Ministry system. She emphasized that appointing a manager with his experience as minister was the right decision.

The deputy prime minister noted the contribution to the system's development made by Natalya Pavlyuchenko, who has headed the Labor and Social Security Ministry until now, and thanked her for the period she served in this position with selfless dedication, for her professionalism and loyalty.

Speaking about the appointment of Natalya Pavlyuchenko as a member of the Council of the Republic, Natalya Petkevich emphasized that this decision demonstrates the attention the head of state is paying to matters of labor and social security in the current five-year period. “This decision speaks volumes: both about the professionalism of Natalya Pavlyuchenko, and about what we will have to deal with in the next five years,” she added.
