Expert outlines promising areas of Belarus-Brazil cooperation

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) - In a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project On Point Yulia Abukhovich, an expert on economy, head of the educational center Aksios of the Belarusian scientific research and R&D company OAO Giprosvjaz, shared her views on the most promising areas of cooperation between Belarus and Brazil.
According to her, one such area is the supply of potash fertilizers, for which Belarus is known worldwide. These fertilizers are also used in coffee cultivation: a crop for which Brazil is famous. “Brazil has a strong demand for fertilizers. The country is associated with coffee, and coffee trees thrive on potash fertilizers,” Yulia Abukhovich said.

The expert pointed out that in recent years trade between Belarus and Brazil has been growing and now exceeds $700 million. Nevertheless, she believes the two countries can achieve more. “We have an opportunity to demonstrate what we are capable of. Brazil is also an agricultural country, and we need comprehensive solutions to gain a foothold in this market,” she emphasized. “Industrial cooperation is important here, because from a logistics standpoint, shipping a tractor to Brazil is quite expensive. Joint ventures are a good solution.”

As BelTA previously reported, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko held a meeting with Brazil’s Ambassador to Belarus Bernard Klingl in February 2026. The head of state said that the two countries must intensify their relations.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that there were a large number of issues to discuss. “Mutually beneficial issues, which I have raised before. But some of them have not been resolved. Since they are mutually beneficial (as you can see, time is changing very rapidly), we need to approach these issues seriously and decide whether we will move in this direction,” he said.
