CEC accredits 486 international observers to monitor Belarus' election 

MINSK, 25 January (BelTA) – A total of 486 international observers have been accredited to monitor Belarus' presidential election, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Igor Karpenko said, BelTA has learned.

“The Central Election Commission has accredited 486 observers. They represent the CIS, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Pan-African Parliament, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, the Youth Organization of the Non-Aligned Movement, electoral bodies of other states, as well as independent observers. They come from 52 countries, including countries of Africa, Latin America, Asia, the CIS, as well as 17 European countries,” Igor Karpenko said.

According to the Central Election Commission, 308 observers represent the CIS states: 64 of them were delegated by the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, 16 by the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, 12 by the parliaments of the CIS member states. Also, 35 observers were sent by the central electoral bodies of Azerbaijan, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, the Philippines, and the Republic of South Africa. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization delegated 17 observers, the Pan-African Parliament 10 observers, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia and the Youth Organization of the Non-Aligned Movement delegated two observers each.

In addition to that, 112 representatives of foreign countries were accredited as international observers. These are politicians, deputies, public figures from Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, Hungary, Vietnam, Germany, Georgia, Egypt, Israel, Indonesia, Iran, Spain, Italy, Kenya, China, Colombia, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Moldova, the UAE, Poland, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, the USA, Uzbekistan, France, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden and Japan. They do not represent any election observation missions or organizations, but act solely as independent observers.

Seven national observers were accredited with the CEC; 1,026 observers were accredited with territorial commissions, and 43,328 with precinct commissions.

The main election day is scheduled for 26 January. Voters will be able to cast their ballots from 8:00 to 20:00.
