Bulhak Palace in Zhilichi gears up for new tourism season

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) -The restoration of Bulhak Palace in Zhilichi was completed in 2023 and the park was landscaped in 2025, Ksenia Novikova, a researcher at the Zhilichi Historical Complex-Museum, told BelTA.

Cascade lakes, rotundas, and a pavilion on the island have been built. Several small bridges have been constructed, pathways have been laid, and benches have been installed. There is a café, a souvenir shop, and a rental service for bicycles and scooters. Closer to the summer, we will have horse-drawn carriages running. The former carriage house has been repurposed into guest rooms, Ksenia Novikova said.

“Last year, the palace in Zhilichi drew 96,000 visitors. The main event held at the palace is the September Fest. Last year, we welcomed over 8,000 on this day,” she said.

The construction of the palace and park ensemble in the agrotown of Zhilichi, Kirovsk District, began in the 1820s by Ignatius Bułhak, a representative of the noble family. The total area of the complex is 4,000 square meters. It impresses guests with its beautiful design, magnificent stucco work on the ceilings and upper parts of the walls. Each hall is individually decorated.

A large number of photographs from the 19th and 20th centuries have survived, which allowed restorers to recreate the interiors almost exactly as they were more than 100 years ago.

This year, the museum expects an increase in the number of tourists. The region as a whole is also of great interest. The itinerary can cover Bobruisk, the memorial complex and estate in Krasny Bereg, the memorial in the village of Borki.

The Bulhak Palace in Zhilichi hosts various events such as concerts, workshops. After reconstruction, the 19th-century park has been restored to its historical glory. The residence in Zhilichi is often called “the second Nesvizh” or even “the Belarusian Versailles”. The classical palace and park of the 19th century is an architectural gem of the eastern part of Belarus. This is one of the largest and best preserved estates in the country.
