MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) — I expect no changes in the region as Donald Trump assumed office in the United States, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media on 26 January, BelTA has learned.
“Donald is a great performer and actor. He is a showman, a businessman. He is really cool. He knows how to do it. He has this kind of character and does not shy away from doing it,” the head of state said. "As an experienced politician, I should say that I do not think that anything will change in our region after Trump took office.”
The head of state stressed that the president of such a country as the United States should think about “how he will be judged by others”. In this regard, the Belarusian leader recalled his negative feelings about Trump's inauguration speech, in which he criticized Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced that one should pay less attention to various statements made by the United States, which primarily aim to create media hype. “There are their problems. Let them deal with them,” he said.
In this respect, the president recommended taking an example from China which has been calm about all this.
“We should stop focusing even on him [Donald Trump]. Yes, his country has a large economy, accounting for a third of the world's GDP. But so what? That's just a third. The rest is China, India, Russia and other countries. What about their resources? Africa has realized its mistakes and will no longer play the U.S. game. This must be understood,” the head of state said.
Türkiye, in particular President Erdogan, takes the U.S. statements in a calm manner.
“We treat them in the way Türkiye does, in a calm manner. We do not expect any handouts from the United States, but we do want to cooperate with them,” the president said. "Realizing that it is still the leading country in the world, which has a serious impact on the economy of Belarus, our union with Russia, and the economy of China. It influences the economy of all countries. Why should we quarrel? We are not going to solve global issues with the United States, we know our place."
