Lukashenko: Election campaigns in Belarus, Russia will be calm

ST. PETERSBURG, 29 January (BelTA) – The election campaigns in Belarus and Russia will be held in a calm atmosphere, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed confidence as he spoke at the Union State Supreme State Council summit in St. Petersburg on 29 January, BelTA has learned.

The head of state added that the Supreme State Council summit was held ahead of important domestic political events. The single voting day will be held in Belarus on 25 February 2024 for the first time in the history of the country. “Following the example of Russia, we have also constitutionally established a single voting day. On this day we will elect MPs, deputies of local councils (we have regional, district and rural councils, as it was in the Soviet times). Russia will hold the presidential election on 17 March,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“The period is a difficult one but it is proceeding in a calm atmosphere. I am sure we will approach and hold these events in a calm manner,” the Belarusian head of state said.
