MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) – The Republic of Azerbaijan, like the Republic of Belarus, is firmly committed to pursuing an independent policy, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic Vladislav Tatarinovich said at the International Parliamentary Conference in Baku dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Constitution.

In his address, Vladislav Tatarinovich noted that a constitution represents a crucial milestone for any nation; it is based on the inalienable right of a people to determine their own destiny and to be a full-fledged member of the global community. A constitution shapes society and state for many years to come, including its legal foundation, its way of life, and its future.

“Each country on the path to democracy develops its own model of state-building. The Republic of Azerbaijan, like the Republic of Belarus, firmly pursues an independent policy,” the deputy speaker emphasized.

He cited as evidence the achievements in various spheres, including stable political, economic, and social systems, a growing international authority, and the preservation of national identity and traditions.

The deputy speaker highlighted that the leaders of Belarus and Azerbaijan, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Ilham Aliyev, set a special tone for these interstate relations.

He recalled that in his Independence Day address on 28 May, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that Azerbaijan is rightfully proud of its dynamically growing economy, the steady improvement in the standard of living, and significant achievements on the international stage.

Vladislav Tatarinovich expressed confidence that cooperation between Belarus and Azerbaijan will continue to develop based on friendship and mutual understanding, mutual trust, and respect.

The deputy speaker also shared Belarus’ experience in constitutional development.

On the sidelines of the event, Vladislav Tatarinovich met with Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova. The officials noted the importance of an active intergovernmental dialogue, founded on absolute mutual understanding between the two presidents. Sahiba Gafarova spoke highly of the existing interparliamentary cooperation and stressed the importance of intensifying it further to facilitate specific projects in medicine, culture, and education, including through the active involvement of both countries’ regions.
