MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has been connected to the power grid, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.

According to the source, the first unit was reconnected to the power grid on 14 March after studies of xenon transition processes were successfully completed. The reactor unit was switched to nominal power levels.

In line with the pilot commercial operation program the first unit is supposed to undergo tests of the reactor unit in a stationary mode and dynamic tests at various levels of power with unit unloading, including all the way down to zero.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW.
