MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) - The Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) has accredited a new exchange broker in Azerbaijan: the experienced importer of forestry products MERA, BelTA learned from the BUCE press service.
The company has been operating on BUCE since May 2023 and during this period has purchased around 110,000 cubic meters of sawn timber on the exchange platform, increasing its procurement volumes each year.
Thus, the promotion of Belarusian goods on the Azerbaijani market and the expansion of the pool of Azerbaijani buyers are now being handled by two professional participants in exchange trading. Based on the results of the first nine months, Azerbaijan became the fourth-largest export destination for Belarusian products through BUCE. The accreditation of a new exchange broker is expected to have a positive impact on the sales dynamics of domestic goods abroad.
According to MERA’s Financial Director Parviz Hasanov, the transition to broker status is part of the company’s strategy to scale up its business in Belarus. This will contribute not only to increasing exchange trade with Azerbaijan, but also to strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries as a whole.
“The decision to become an exchange broker was driven by the desire to gain additional export-import opportunities, simplify access to new partners, and further strengthen our company’s position in the Belarusian market. In addition, this step will allow us to expand the range of Belarusian goods supplied to Azerbaijan, attract new buyers to the exchange platform, and increase trust in the exchange mechanism among Azerbaijani business circles,” the MERA representative said.
Currently, BUCE cooperates with 62 exchange brokers from 12 countries. The largest number of accredited brokers are based in Belarus, Russia, China, and Uzbekistan. In January-September 2025, the share of transactions by exchange brokers and their clients accounted for 16% of the total value of exports through BUCE.
Founded in 2004, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange conducted its first trading session in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its main function is to assist Belarusian enterprises with export and foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. BUCE sells a wide range of metal, forestry and agricultural products, industrial and consumer goods.
