Belarus' standardization authority comments on restriction of Skoda Rapid sales in Belarus

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – The State Committee for Standardization (Gosstandart) of Belarus has commented on the restriction of Skoda Rapid sales in Belarus, BelTA learned from Gosstandart's press service.

“We constantly monitor whether companies meet the requirements for their products sold in the Belarusian market and whether their goods comply with their specifications. The goal is to protect the market from unsafe and low-quality products. State market surveillance and monitoring apply to various products, including motor vehicles,” the press service said.

Gosstandart's Inspectorate for Minsk Oblast and Minsk has found several issues with the Skoda Rapid model. According to the document on the product's compliance with the mandatory technical regulations of the Eurasian Customs Union “On the safety of wheeled transport”, this model is equipped with a brake assist system (BAS), while in reality the car does not have one. In addition, the daytime running lights of the vehicle also do not comply with the information stated in the document. Other discrepancies concern the number of doors, the emission standard, and some other parameters.

“In view of this, Gosstandart's Inspectorate for Minsk Oblast and Minsk has has restricted the sales of Skoda Rapid until the manufacturer deals with these issues. OOO Felokt-Servis, Skoda's distributor in Belarus, has been notified of this decision,” the press service explained.
